NASCAR driver Erik Jones was injured in a crash at Talladega Superspeedway. During the race, multiple cars tangled in a pack, resulting in a violent collision that sent Jones to the hospital.
The incident occurred during stage three of the race, when several Toyota teams pitted for fuel. As they rejoined the track, they formed a single-file line, attempting to gain momentum to pressure the leading pack.
Unfortunately, as they approached turn three, a bump draft from one of the cars caused Jones to be pushed into the wall, causing significant damage to his car.
Jones immediately radioed his team, expressing concern about his condition. He was quickly attended to and transported to the infield care center for evaluation.
While he initially seemed to be okay and even gave a post-accident interview, further assessment revealed that he had suffered a compression fracture in a lower vertebra.
As a result of his injury, Jones will be unable to compete in the upcoming race at Talladega Superspeedway. Corey Heim has been called in as the reserve driver to fill Jones’ seat in the No. 43 car.
Jones, in a statement, thanked everyone for their support and assured fans that he is at home and focused on healing. He expressed hope to return to the car as soon as possible and promised to support his team during his recovery period.
