Ahead of the NASCAR Truck Series race at Circuit of the Americas (COTA), the qualifying session brought plenty of excitement and surprises. Let’s take a closer look at the starting lineup for the event.
The qualifying session was divided into two groups, with the top 5 from each group advancing to the second round. Notably, Thad Moffitt and Ben Rhodes encountered mechanical issues and were unable to participate in qualifying.
In Group A, Nick Sanchez secured the top spot with an impressive lap time of 2:13.143, followed closely by Taylor Gray and Ross Chastain. Meanwhile, in Group B, it was Connor Zilisch who stole the show, claiming pole position in his first NASCAR Truck Series start with a blistering lap time of 2:11.980.
As a result, the starting lineup for the COTA race features Zilisch on pole position, alongside Corey Heim, who showed strong pace throughout the session. Carlos Sainz, returning from appendix surgery, impressed by securing a spot on the front row.
Unfortunately, not all drivers had a smooth qualifying session. Lewis Hamilton, a record eight-time pole winner in Australia, surprisingly failed to make it into the final round of qualifying. However, the stage is set for an exciting race as the drivers look to navigate the challenging COTA circuit.
