Family in Georgia is Being Charged With Child Abuse and False Imprisonment of Four Teenagers

Authorities in Georgia are charging two parents with cruelty to children because they are said to have locked their four teenagers in their bedrooms for long amounts of time.

It was reported by Fox 5 Atlanta that James and Cindy Spooner have each been charged with four counts of first-degree child abuse and false imprisonment.

With a search order, police went to the family’s four-bedroom ranch-style home in Whitesburg, Georgia, and found four teens—three girls and one boy—living in what the police called “inhumane” conditions.

The sheriff’s office said that the outside doors and windows of each child’s bedroom were closed up and had a deadbolt lock on them. This was likely done to keep the kids from leaving the house.

The teens told police that they had been locked in their rooms for hours or even days, with only a bucket to use as a toilet. For their part, the kids said their parents chose when to give them food.

The sheriff’s office said in a statement, “This is a deeply sad situation for these innocent children. No one should be treated this way.” “We pray for their recovery from this mentally and physically and hope the offenders are punished harshly through the judicial system for these horrid actions.”
