Race Day Live Floridians who prefer buying in bulk to save money often shop at warehouse stores like BJ’s, Sam’s Club, or Costco.
However, Costco shoppers may soon face issues as the company’s workers are preparing for a possible strike. Here’s what you need to know.
Costco Workers Are Planning a Strike
According to NBC Miami, a union representing 18,000 Costco employees has approved a strike if a new agreement isn’t reached before January 31, 2025.
The workers, represented by The Costco Teamsters Union, are pushing for better seniority pay, paid family leave, improved bereavement policies, and more sick time.
Many of these employees work in Costco warehouses across New York, New Jersey, and the West Coast.
Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien issued a strong statement, saying:
“We’ve told Costco that our members won’t work a day past January 31 without a historic, industry-leading agreement… Costco’s greedy executives have less than two weeks to do the right thing.”
How the Strike Could Impact Florida Shoppers?
If the strike happens, it could cause problems for Costco’s daily operations and store inventory. John Robledo, a Costco employee for 37 years, told The U.S. Sun that a walkout could lead to supply shortages.
The website Eat This, Not That even suggested that customers stock up on necessary medications now in case of disruptions.
Costco’s Presence in Florida
Florida has 34 Costco locations across the state. While not every Floridian has easy access to one, many rely on Costco for groceries, household items, and bulk shopping deals.

How Customers Are Reacting?
Local Florida news station WESH reported the upcoming strike on Facebook, sparking mixed reactions from shoppers. One commenter, Myron, seemed unconcerned, saying:
“Ok, well (I) guess we will just have to go to Walmart, Sam’s, or BJ’s. This will affect Costco, but not have much effect on customers.”
What’s Next?
With the deadline approaching, Florida shoppers may want to keep an eye on the situation.
If no agreement is reached, Costco stores could experience delays, stock shortages, and service disruptions.
