Race Day Live , (Orlando, FL) – A Florida mother reported her son to authorities for attempted robbery after spotting his photo on the Sheriff’s Office social media account.
A teenager, aged 15, has been taken into custody related to an attempted armed robbery that took place outside a convenience store on December 17, as reported by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
At around 12:17 p.m., Ken Sanders was sitting in his car outside the Qwik King convenience store on Oak Road when a teenage suspect came up to him.
Officials reported that the teenager first requested money from Sanders. The suspect, after the victim refused, donned a ski mask, brandished a gun, and insisted on cash and the vehicle.
“I said, ‘No I don’t have any cash, sorry.’ And he walked off, but then he came back quickly and pulled out the weapon and started banging on my window demanding me to get out, or ‘Give me the money@!’ or ‘Give me the keys!’ or something,” Sanders told FOX 35’s Manny Martinez.
The suspect rode away on a bicycle, thinking the victim could be armed as well. Sanders expressed his surprise over the incident but stated he felt no fear.

“He also wasn’t wearing anything on his face until I asked him if he was serious. That’s when he pulled his little mask down and said, ‘Yes I’m serious.’ And that’s when I feigned that I had something, and he took off. I scared him.”
Authorities released a photo of the suspect captured on security cameras through the Sheriff’s Office social media channels. A mother recognized her son in a post and took him to the Sheriff’s Office to surrender.
The teenager confessed to detectives during an interview that he had attempted a robbery using a BB gun. He informed investigators that he got rid of the weapon after noticing his picture being shared on social media.
A suspect has been taken into custody and faces charges for attempting to commit robbery with a firearm. He was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Documents reveal that the teenager expressed remorse for his actions and even composed a brief letter to Sanders, stating:
“I apologize for what I did that day. I had a lot going on in my mind that day. I feel like I learned my lesson and I will never do this again. I hope you will accept my apology.”
“I can accept his apology, and I hope he’s sincere about that statement,” Sanders told FOX 35.
