Florida’s First Winter Chill: Cold Temps and Rain Expected as Storm Sweeps Southeast

3 min read

Race Day Live (FLORIDA) – A fresh winter storm will bring rain and some of the lowest temperatures of the season to the southeastern United States, including parts of Florida.

According to AccuWeather, the same weather pattern that caused high winds and wildfires in California will bring the storm to the eastern United States early next week.

“How quickly the storm strengthens will help to determine its track,” AccuWeather Chief On-Air Meteorologist Bernie Rayno said. “And consequently, where it tracks will determine where the band of accumulating snow versus rain sets up.”

A comparable area of the country that received several inches of snow during Winter Storm Cora is expected to get more. The majority of the southeastern states, from North Carolina to Louisiana, will have rain rather than the winter mix of snow and ice elsewhere.

However, these early predictions are not fixed in stone. The storm’s route will eventually be determined by its strength.

According to The Weather Channel, Florida is the only state in the US that has not received any snow. However, the recent winter storm is unlikely to change this.

Rain is forecast to fall in the Florida Panhandle beginning Friday and lasting until Sunday, but it does not correspond to the freezing temperatures that will arrive on Monday.

According to AccuWeather, the southeast can expect thunder and lightning, as well as heavy rain capable of causing localized urban flooding.

The cooler temperatures in Florida will not coincide with the storm since the arctic air will take some time to reach thus far south. The storm is scheduled to pass from Saturday until Monday. Temperatures in Florida will start to dip Sunday night.

The Florida Panhandle is projected to see the coldest temperatures, according to AccuWeather. Monday’s high will be 44 degrees, with a low of 22, more than 35 degrees below the daily normal of 57.9. These lower temperatures will last until at least Wednesday.

North Florida will experience slightly milder temps. On Monday, the high in Tallahassee will be 47 degrees and the low will be 25, while in Jacksonville the high will be 47 degrees and the low will be 34 degrees.

Temperatures in Central Florida will be in the mid-50s, while in South Florida they will be in the mid-60s beginning Tuesday.
