Race Day Live (Houston, TX) – Tuesday will be similar to Monday, with sunshine and highs in the 40s and low 50s. It will be a cool but dry day!
While it is not chilly enough to cause pipes to burst, it does pose a hazard to your tropical plants. Bring them inside or wrap them up to keep them secure.
Our far northern counties may receive a few flurries, as well as sleet/wintry mix, late Thursday afternoon/evening. Instead of snow on Thursday and Friday, anticipate cold rain and a probable flood threat as a coastal low moves down the Gulf Coast.
Another blast of cold air is forecast to hit the state late Wednesday, while a Pacific low-pressure system will block a ton of milder moisture from hooking up with the cold air. Here’s where the winter difficulties start:
The mix of warmer Gulf air and very cold air surrounding Dallas will result in all forms of wintry precipitation beginning early Thursday with freezing rain and sleet, then snow before daylight. Conditions on the roadways leading into Dallas will continue to deteriorate throughout the day.
The main question is where the freezing line will be. We currently have it well to our north. This indicates we will just get cold rain. If the freezing line moves south, we may have a wintry mix (freezing rain/ice) as far south as Madisonville. We don’t expect to see any accumulating snow precipitation, although conditions may become a little slippery late Thursday evening.

There is a chance of severe rainfall on Thursday, which could cause street flooding. People living south of I-10 are most at risk. This means you’ll need to allow for extra time on the road on Thursday. We’ll be monitoring the threat of a couple inches of rainfall.
The one consistent thing in our 10-day forecast is how frigid the mornings are until Thursday. Every day is at or near freezing. We won’t dip below freezing all day, with highs in the 40s. Next weekend, all of the frigid air will leave.
