MABLETON, GEORGIA — A disturbing discovery was made after a man allegedly admitted to killing his missing girlfriend, leading investigators to her remains in Atlanta, authorities confirmed this week.
The Cobb County Police Department said the tragic case began on October 11, when officers responded to a missing person report filed by the victim’s son. He told police that his mother, 45-year-old Tange Davis, had not been seen for two days, sparking a search effort that would soon turn into a homicide investigation.
Victim’s Car Found, Boyfriend’s Story Raises Suspicions
During the initial search, police located Davis’ car in the parking lot of a grocery store in Mableton, Georgia, where it appeared abandoned. Investigators questioned Cecil McCrary, 56, Davis’ boyfriend, who initially claimed that she had left his home voluntarily.
According to police, McCrary even provided security footage purportedly showing Davis leaving his property. However, detectives soon grew suspicious as inconsistencies in his statements began to emerge.
By October 14, with Davis still missing and no credible sightings reported, the Cobb County Police Department issued a public alert requesting information from the community.
Boyfriend Confesses to Killing and Burying Davis
Later that same day, investigators took McCrary into custody for further questioning. During the interrogation, police say McCrary admitted to killing Davis and later burying her body in Atlanta.
Officers then followed McCrary’s directions to a wooded area, where they discovered human remains believed to be those of Tange Davis. Authorities later confirmed the identity of the victim, officially marking the end of the search and the beginning of a murder investigation.
The department’s statement described the case as a devastating reminder of domestic violence, which had reportedly plagued the couple’s relationship prior to the killing.
History of Domestic Violence and Pending Charges
Investigators revealed that police had previously responded to multiple domestic violence incidents between McCrary and Davis before her death. At the time of the murder, McCrary was already out on pre-trial release for serious charges, including kidnapping and aggravated assault.
“These prior incidents paint a tragic picture of a pattern that escalated into fatal violence,” one law enforcement source told local media.
Police Chief Dan Ferrell expressed deep sorrow over the loss, saying:
“This loss devastates all of us. Our hearts are with her family, and we are reminded that behind every statistic is a person — a mother, a friend, a colleague — whose life mattered. We remain committed to protecting those at risk to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.”
Murder and Theft Charges Filed
Following his confession, McCrary was booked into Cobb County Jail, where he now faces a series of felony charges. According to jail records, he is charged with murder in commission of a felony, aggravated assault by strangulation, concealing the death of another, and two counts of theft.

He also remains charged for the previous domestic violence offenses for which he was already awaiting trial. As of now, it remains unclear whether McCrary has entered a plea or retained an attorney to represent him in court.

The shocking case of Tange Davis serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of early intervention. Advocates urge anyone witnessing signs of abuse to seek help immediately.
