GOP Lawmaker Defends Calling Trans Democrat ‘Mr. McBride’ – “I Won’t Participate in His Fantasy

During a congressional hearing this week, Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, referred to Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride of Delaware as “Mr. McBride.” Self later stated that he is not obligated to acknowledge McBride’s “fantasy.”

While speaking with conservative commentator Michael Knowles of the Daily Wire, he used male pronouns when discussing McBride, who identifies as a transgender woman.

“Well, Michael, I’m a retired Green Beret. I’m not even sure what all the fuss is about,” Self said. “He is allowed to live his life — I spent 25 years on active duty defending his right to live as he chooses. But I don’t have to participate in his fantasy.”

Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., supported Self’s remarks. Last month, Miller also referred to McBride as “the gentleman from Delaware, Mr. McBride,” during a floor speech.

She later posted on X, “Exactly! No one should be forced to go along with the Democrats’ delusions. Thank you, @RepKeithSelf, for your boldness.”

Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., also backed Self’s comments, tweeting, “#GoodMan.”

During the hearing, McBride responded by referring to Self as “Madam chair” after Self, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Europe subcommittee, introduced McBride as “the representative from Delaware, Mr. McBride.”

Subcommittee ranking member Rep. Bill Keating, D-Mass., interrupted the hearing and called on Self to address McBride correctly.
