Heat Advisory in South Florida as “Feels Like” Temperatures Set to Hit Triple Digits

The National Weather Service has issued a heat warning for South Florida because it “feels like” it will be in the triple digits on Friday.

It’s the first one of the year.

A heat warning is sent out by the National Weather Service when the heat index, which is made up of temperature and humidity, is expected to be at least 105 degrees for at least two hours. For a heat warning, things must be even worse.

In Broward and Miami-Dade counties, the heat index will stay around 105 degrees on Friday, but in some parts of Southwest Florida, it “feels like” temperatures could reach as high as 111 degrees. It will feel like it’s between 100 and 106 degrees in the Florida Keys, even though there isn’t an official heat warning in place.

South Florida will be hotter and drier starting on Friday because of unusually strong high pressure that will last through the weekend. No rain is likely on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday because the air will be dry.

Friday, the highs will reach the low 90s, making it very hot.

People who live in South Florida are told to take the right steps to avoid heat sickness and heat exhaustion.

Drink a lot of water, stay in the shade or the AC in the afternoon, or take lots of breaks if you have to be outside over the next few days.

This story was helped by Shane Hinton and Doug Myers.

The heat warning lasts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
