Race Day Live (Ottumwa, IA) – A man from Illinois who was accused of going to Ottumwa and sexually abusing a youngster while being a registered sex offender was sentenced to 35 years in federal prison.
In 2022, while serving in the U.S. Air Force, Anthony Alan Anderson, who was 40 years old at the time, was convicted of two charges of attempting to conduct a lewd act with a person he believed to be under 16 years old, according to the United States Attorney’s Office Southern District of Iowa. He was obliged to register as a sex offender as part of his conviction.
The attorney’s office stated that the following year, in 2023, Anderson was interacting with a 14-year-old in Ottumwa over text and social media, and throughout their talks, Anderson persuaded the victim to send him sexually explicit material.

Anderson traveled from his home in Illinois to Ottumwa in September 2023 in order to speak with the victim. Anderson picked up the victim and drove to a motel, where he sexually assaulted the victim, according to the attorney’s office.
Anderson was found guilty of enticing a juvenile and attempting to entice a minor, as well as committing an offense while being a registered sex offender. He was sentenced to 35 years in federal prison on Friday. He will have to serve a ten-year term of supervised release after he has completed his sentence.
