In a life-saving move, a woman in Florida calls 911 to order pizza

A woman in Florida called 911 to “order a pizza” instead of calling for help.

The call came in around 4 a.m. ET to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center. The dispatcher quickly realized that the woman who was calling to order pizza was actually calling for help.

The Volusia Sheriff’s Office shared an audio recording of the call that hides the victim’s voice for privacy reasons, along with bodycam video of the woman being rescued.

The communications center and patrol officers used the woman’s phone to find out where she was. They found her in Pierson, Florida, in the middle of a field.

When the police got close to the woman, they saw that the suspect was on top of her while she screamed for help. Soon, the police were able to move quickly and arrest the suspect.

Sheriff of Volusia County Mike Chitwood said, “I can’t say enough good things about the work shown in this video and the smarts of this victim who figured out a way to call for help.”

Chitwood named the suspect as Luis Diego Hernandez-Moncayo, who is 27 years old and in the U.S. illegally. He is said to have asked for asylum the day before the crime.

Hernandez-Moncayo is being held in jail, according to the sheriff. He is being charged with attempted sexual battery, battery by strangling, and false imprisonment. The U.S. Border Patrol has also placed an immigration detainer on him.
