INDIANA – The Indiana National Guard will deploy troops to the U.S.-Mexico border for the second time, following a previous ten-month mission that ended in February.
The new deployment is expected to last a year and will cost around $9 million.
This deployment comes in response to a request from Texas Governor Gregg Abbott, similar to the mission that concluded earlier this year.
Indiana National Guard members previously supported border security operations during their last assignment.
Lauren Houck, the Indiana National Guard’s chief communications officer, said that all participating soldiers are volunteers.
She added that interest was so high they had to turn away some volunteers due to the strong response.
The Indiana National Guard’s involvement reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen border security, with National Guard units from several states contributing to the effort.
