A Wisconsin woman was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a home and pretending to know the resident.

The Madison Police Department accused suspect Joanna Kelly Lee of burglary and criminal trespass. She was captured at approximately 10:40 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said they were notified of the incident when the home’s resident returned home at 10:30 p.m. and discovered someone inside.

The Madison Police Department told Fox News Digital that the victim was “startled to see all the lights on, as she had been gone most of the day.”

“Police arrived and observed through windows a female casually walking around the interior of the home,” according to the department’s statement. “The female, later identified as Joanna K. Lee, came to the door in response to orders given by police.”

According to authorities, Lee “calmly advised” officers that she was permitted to be in the residence and even mentioned the resident’s name.

“Lee provided a detailed story about how she met the resident at a coffee shop earlier and had been given keys to the house,” the investigating officer stated. “Lee had been at the house long enough to prepare herself a shrimp and spaghetti meal.

“The resident, however, insisted that she had never met Lee and that Lee did not have permission to be in her home eating her food.”

Authorities then discovered that the suspect searched through the resident’s mail to obtain her identity and construct a story. She was soon arrested and is currently being held at the Dane County Jail.

Authorities are investigating.
