A woman named Kyleen Waltman is suing Abbeville Animal Services in South Carolina after she was brutally attacked by three dogs, resulting in the loss of both her arms. The incident occurred while she was walking along a road in Honea Path in March 2022.
Waltman was attacked by the dogs without provocation, causing severe injuries. A passerby witnessed the attack and called 911. Responders found Waltman lying in a muddy ditch with severe lacerations to her neck and missing her right arm tricep.
She was rushed to a hospital in Greenville where both of her arms had to be amputated. Waltman spent seven weeks in the hospital, and a GoFundMe campaign raised over $360,000 to assist with her medical expenses.
According to the lawsuit, Abbeville Animal Services had received previous complaints about the dangerous dogs but failed to take appropriate action. One complaint was made by a neighbour in February 2021 after the dogs entered his yard, but the agency only left a flyer and did not follow up.
Another incident occurred on Christmas Day 2021 when a visitor to the dogs’ home was bitten and attacked. Despite this, animal services did not properly investigate or address the complaints, violating their policies.
The lawsuit alleges that if Abbeville Animal Services had acted on the previous complaints, Waltman’s attack could have been prevented.
