Lexington Man Charged with Animal Cruelty After 3 Dogs Die from Starvation

LEXINGTON, N.C.— The Lexington Police Department says a man is being charged with a crime after three dogs he owned died of hunger.

Around 4:19 p.m. on October 10, police were called to a house in the 300 block of Williamson Street because a dead dog was being found in the garden.

When cops got to the scene, they found the dog dead next to another dead dog inside a small fence with three other dogs.

The other dogs were taken by police to the Davidson County Animal Shelter, where one of them later died.

Jamal Moore, 48, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with three felonies for killing an animal by starvation, two felonies for animal abuse, and five felonies for leaving an animal to die.

When police went back to the house on Saturday morning, they found another dog inside. The search order allowed that dog to be taken to an animal shelter.

The investigation has not ended yet.
