Major Retailer Shuts Down 43 Texas Stores – What Happens to Your Gift Cards?

Joann, the popular fabric and craft retailer, has announced it will close all of its stores after 82 years in business.

Texas, which is home to 43 stores across 35 cities, will be heavily affected by the closures.

The decision follows a bankruptcy auction where GA Group and the retailer’s lenders were the winning bidders.

Joann confirmed that going-out-of-business sales will begin at all remaining locations, pending court approval.

In a statement, Joann’s leadership expressed disappointment, saying they had “made every possible effort to pursue a more favorable outcome that would keep the company in business.”

The company’s focus is now on managing an orderly shutdown while minimizing the impact on employees, customers, and stakeholders.

This closure comes after Joann’s second bankruptcy filing in just 10 months. Sales were already underway at 533 stores, and now liquidation discounts will be available at all remaining locations.

Customers can expect discounts of 10-20% on most products, with holiday items marked down by up to 75%.

Joann’s exit highlights the growing challenges for brick-and-mortar retailers in today’s evolving market.

Customers have also expressed frustration as the company is no longer accepting gift cards.
