Man Charged Following Multi-County Chase and SWAT Standoff in Miamisburg

A 32-year-old man suspected of leading law police on a multi-county chase and inciting a SWAT standoff last month is now facing formal charges.

A Warren County grand jury indicted Johnathon E. Brown of Hamilton on Monday for felonious assault, failure to comply with a police officer’s order or signal, obstructing official business, unauthorized use of a vehicle, inducing panic, and interfering with train operation, according to court records.

On August 16, multiple southwestern Ohio law enforcement agencies and the state patrol were instructed to keep an eye out for a stolen Chevrolet Silverado involved in an incident in Butler Township.

Two hours later, a Franklin Police Department officer saw the truck and attempted to stop it on southbound Interstate 75 near Franklin Lebanon Road. Brown took off, and the pursuit began.

State troopers joined the chase between State Routes 63 and 4 in Monroe. A spokeswoman for the Ohio State Highway Patrol told News Center 7 that stop sticks were employed, but Brown continued driving on the truck’s rims for several miles.

In a grand jury report filed in Warren County Common Pleas Court, investigators accused Brown of attempting “to cause physical harm to a police officer with a motor vehicle” during the pursuit.

Brown collided with a CSX train on W. Linden Avenue near N. Riverview Avenue in Miamisburg, bringing the chase to a halt.

According to the spokesperson, the impact pushed the truck off the south side of the street.

Brown refused to vacate the truck, resulting in a SWAT standoff.

After several hours, Brown was apprehended and sent to Miami Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

Brown was placed in the Warren County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday for his arraignment.
