On Friday, Oct. 25, a burglary suspect was caught in Fort Worth. Police say he shot the police chief of a place in the Texas Panhandle three weeks ago.

Around 5 p.m., 33-year-old Seth Altman was nabbed near 1300 East Lancaster Avenue on suspicion of trying to kill a police officer with a firearm.

News station KVII-TV said that Memphis Police Chief Rex Plant was shot on October 3 when he and another cop tried to arrest Altman for burglary. The other cop went to the front door of an apartment building, and Chief Plant went to the back door. Police say Altman shot Plant, then left through the back door and ran away.

Plant was taken to a hospital in Lubbock, where he was said to be stable.

Altman had been seen walking or running toward U.S. Highway 287 in Memphis last.

There are about 250 miles between Fort Worth and Memphis. Memphis is in Hall County in the Panhandle, 85 miles southeast of Amarillo.
