Missing Dodgeville Woman Believed Found Dead in Vehicle in Nebraska

According to a story from Iowa County police on Wednesday, the woman whose body was found in a vehicle in Nebraska is thought to be the one who had been reported missing and in danger from Dodgeville.

Dodgeville Police and the Iowa County Sheriff’s Office were looking for Dorinda Segebrecht, who is 67 years old. The last time anyone saw her was in Dodgeville on July 14 at noon.

Her car was found in Nebraska, and the driver, Gavin Thompson, 23, of Dodgeville, was caught and charged.

The police and sheriff’s office said they found the body of an adult woman in the car that was linked to the case. Officials are still waiting for a woman who is thought to be Segebrecht to be positively identified.

Officers of the law think the crime was random.

“We know for sure that this was a violent act done for no reason,” Iowa County Sheriff Michael Peterson said. “There was no known relationship between the suspect and the victim.”

Peterson said that people in the neighborhood need to help each other through these hard times.

“In times like this the why often doesn’t come quickly,” he noted. It doesn’t always bring the comfort we hope for, even when it does. But what we can and must do is help and care for each other and make sure that something stupid doesn’t break down our sense of community.

“We might never know why, but we can choose what to do next.” He also said, “And that lies in each of us.”

To begin, Dodgeville police were called to a home in the 300 block of E. Division Street at 7:51 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15. Family members said they hadn’t heard from Segebrecht since Monday, July 14, around 11 a.m. When the police arrived, they saw signs that she might be hurt or in danger.

According to the cops, evidence was found that she did not leave on her own.

It was also said that Segebrecht’s black 2020 Hyundai Kona with the license plate AXG8066 was stolen. Later, investigators found that her car might have been in Nebraska.

They told the Nebraska State Patrol about it, and they found the car on Interstate 80 near Lincoln at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday.

A Nebraska State Trooper tried to pull the car over for speeding, which started a chase.

The driver, whose name was Thompson, went off the road and down a steep slope. He was caught after a four-hour search and taken to the Lancaster County Jail in Nebraska.

Thompson is being charged in Nebraska with fleeing to avoid arrest and willful unsafe driving. More charges are still being considered.

The probe is still going on.
