Imagine paddling out on the water in your canoe and coming across a moose at eye level. That’s exactly what occurred to this New Hampshire man when a giant moose went wading into the river, standing in water up to its chest yet remaining almost as tall as the man in his little boat.
If you were looking for moose information, you should know that most people underestimate how large these creatures are. Moose are the largest deer in the deer family, with males typically larger than females. On average, bull moose stands 6 feet tall at the shoulders and can weigh up to 1,400 pounds, whereas cows typically weigh 1,000 pounds.
It’s unknown how deep the water was that the man was canoeing through, but it’s still impressive to watch the moose touching the bottom and walking around while the man paddles. He refrains from paddling so as not to startle the large moose, who looks to be cooling off and drinking from the water source.
All the guy in the canoe could do was stare in wonder and try not to make any unexpected movements as the moose calmly walked right next to where he was canoeing. Several times in the video, the guy turns back at the person filming, as if to say, “Can you believe this?”
And there’s a high chance no one would have believed them if they hadn’t documented this unusual meeting on tape. Fortunately for the rest of us, it was all “caught on tape,” and we can see a moose displaying its vast size as it wanders in a region where humans often require a boat to cross.
