Jennifer Delgado, a 32-year-old Texas woman, is facing criminal charges after police say they discovered five children, including two infants, abandoned in her car in a shallow ditch during a police chase.

According to Fox station KWKT, the chase began on August 11 at 8:45 p.m. when McLennan County Sheriffs responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a property on Martin Drive.

A couple could be heard shouting, and witnesses subsequently called police to report that one of the people they suspected of being engaged in the argument had damaged their vehicle in front of a residence and fled the scene, according to Texas CBS station KWTX.

Sheriffs claimed they quickly located the vehicle, reportedly driven by Delgado, speeding down Bob Johnson Road in China Spring.

According to KWKT, an officer attempted to stop the woman by turning on his police lights and sirens, but she did not respond. Officers stated she fled down China Spring Road until police were forced to call off their pursuit.

According to KWTX, sheriffs called off the chase after determining Delgado had many children in the car, which they could see through the windows.

Shortly later, a deputy reported seeing Delgado’s maroon Ford SUV in a shallow ditch.

Delgado was not in the automobile, which had now driven off East Cougar Lane.

Instead, when deputies approached and began inspecting the interior of the SUV, they discovered only three youngsters and two newborns inside.

There were children’s car seats in the second row of the vehicle, but initial reports did not indicate if one or more of the children, particularly newborns, were strapped into them throughout the chase.

According to KWTX, the automobile and its lights were turned off when officers spotted it.

All of the children were evaluated by emergency medical personnel. According to police, one child complained of arm pain and another of head pain.

“Three of the children stated their mommy was driving fast,” an affidavit revealed.

Police said they received a call about Delgado following the crash, which helped them find her. A witness claimed seeing the 32-year-old lady in her backyard “freaking out” and said she needed to get back to her SUV.

Delgado was arrested and put into the McLennan County Jail on August 10, but a study of publicly available jail records shows she is no longer an inmate. She faces charges of abandoning or endangering a kid, escaping arrest or detention, and running from a police officer.
