In the opening game of their week-long stay in the Bay Area, the Washington Nationals emerged victorious with an 8-1 win over the San Francisco Giants. The game saw Lane Thomas driving in three runs, contributing to the Nationals’ victory.
For Blake Snell, making his debut with the Giants, it was an eagerly anticipated moment. Despite not having the opportunity for spring training with his new team, Snell was excited to face big league hitters once again.
However, he admitted to feeling a bit nervous and overexcited, leading to some challenges on the mound.
Staked to an early 1-0 lead by LaMonte Wade Jr.’s RBI double, Snell struggled in the second inning, issuing consecutive walks and allowing back-to-back RBI singles.
Despite his efforts, Snell finished the game after the third inning, reaching his pitch count limit. He received a warm ovation from the crowd as he left the field.
Trevor Williams, pitching for the Nationals, delivered a solid performance, allowing only one run and three hits over five innings. Meanwhile, Thomas contributed significantly to the Nationals’ offense, hitting his first home run of the year in the fifth inning.
In terms of injuries, the Nationals were without SS CJ Abrams due to a left pinkie injury, while 3B Nick Senzel and RF Stone Garrett were on the mend. On the Giants’ side, LF Michael Conforto was held out of the lineup due to a mildly sore side muscle.
