NORMAN, Oklahoma — The family of the two children discovered dead in a car on Thursday has spoken out about what happened.
The family told News 4 that everyone loved the two-year-old twins, Ariel and Avery, and that their loss is sad and unbearable.
“They were the finest girls the world had ever seen. “It hurts because the girls were so loved and cared for,” said Marshall Suter, the twins’ father.
According to the Norman Police Department, police responded to a neighborhood around West Brooks St. and Flood Ave. around 3 p.m. Thursday to conduct a welfare check.
When authorities arrived, they discovered a car stopped in the street. Inside the vehicle, investigators discovered the bodies of two two-year-old children.
According to the Norman Police Department, the youngsters were mistakenly left inside the car for “an extended period” before being discovered by family members.
According to News 4, the parents left the two girls with a trusted family member that day.
That family member was supposed to drop the children off at daycare but claimed they forgot, and when the two were found, it was too late.
One family member stated, “This is truly tragic and has been extremely difficult for the family involved, particularly in light of the hateful comments.” I’m hoping that this would demonstrate to folks that it was an accident rather than a purposeful act. This family just wants some calm during this difficult and heavy time.”
A GoFundMe page launched by Suters’ cousin writes, “No one truly understands the anguish of losing a kid until you have gone through it. I know what this mom and dad are going through. We would be grateful and appreciative of any assistance, and may God bless you all for your goodness.”
The inquiry is ongoing, and the medical examiner is anticipated to announce the cause of death in the coming weeks.
Suter’s cousin created a GoFundMe asking for donations to “give these precious babies the funeral they deserve.”
