North Andover Officer Shot During Restraining Order Delivery Speaks Out: "I Never Pointed My Gun"

The police officer in North Andover, Massachusetts, who was shot by a fellow cop is telling her side of the story for the first time.

Three North Andover police officers went to Officer Kelsey Fitzsimmons’s house on June 30 to serve a protection order. They shot her once in the chest. Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker said that Fitzsimmons was shot by one of the police officers after a “armed confrontation.”

Court records show that her fiancé was worried about the safety of their 4-month-old child. At the time of the event, Fitzsimmons was on temporary leave.

She told her lawyer Thursday that she was thinking about killing herself with her gun instead of hurting the police officer who shot her.

The man said, “I never pointed my gun at the officer.”

“Right away, I accepted that I had been diagnosed with postpartum depression and started getting help from other doctors.” So many people let me down. There is a reason why the NAPD story is unclear and doesn’t make any promises. If my police officers wore body cameras, I wouldn’t be wrongly accused of pointing my gun at this cop. I’m sure the truth will win out.

Fitzsimmons is still in the hospital, and she is also being charged with a crime. One count of assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon are being brought against her. The date of the hearing has not been set yet.

He has worked for the North Andover Police Department for about 15 months.
