GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Residents across the Red River Valley should brace for a wet and breezy stretch of fall weather through the end of the week, as multiple rounds of showers move through the region from Wednesday night to Friday.
Rain and Wind to Dominate Midweek Forecast
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, rain chances will climb above 70% by Wednesday night and remain elevated through Friday. Light rain is expected to begin spreading into East Grand Forks late Wednesday evening, potentially creating slick rural roads and damp morning commutes.
Southeast winds will strengthen midweek, gusting near 20 mph before shifting to the southwest and intensifying by Friday. Some isolated thunderstorms may bring locally heavier rainfall Thursday afternoon, especially across central and eastern parts of the valley.
Cooler Air and Cloudy Skies Ahead
By Friday night, temperatures are expected to dip into the lower 40s, with persistent clouds and intermittent rain keeping daytime highs in the upper 50s to low 60s. The system’s slow movement means U.S. Highway 2 and I-29 could remain wet for extended periods, although forecasters say no flooding impacts are anticipated at this time.
Travel and Outdoor Precautions
Officials are advising residents to allow extra travel time, particularly during Thursday’s morning and evening drives when rainfall may be heavier. Outdoor workers, athletes, and high school football teams should prepare for damp turf and cooler conditions.
By Friday, winds may gust up to 25 mph, prompting residents to secure lightweight outdoor items such as trash bins and decorations.
