Race Day Live (Omaha, NB) – A couple in Nebraska asserts that their family residence was reportedly transformed into a meth lab by guests from Airbnb.

The house of Daniel and Jocelyn Medrano in Omaha suffered significant damage after they put it up as a vacation rental during the holiday season. The couple is now confronted with significant costs to restore their home, which has become uninhabitable.

The Medranos shared with WOWT that they have been renting out their home for the past two years to help cover travel expenses. They were thrilled to secure an 11-day reservation, which covered the costs of their recent trip to Florida.

Unfortunately, the circumstances quickly escalated into a troubling scenario when the visitor reportedly transformed the residence into a site for producing significant amounts of meth, leading to a drug raid conducted by the Omaha Police Department.

The couple reported, that the guest utilized the instant booking option on the Airbnb site to pay for the rental and arrived late for his designated check-in time.

The couple monitored their residence with external surveillance cameras, leading Jocelyn to discover that the visitor was inviting additional individuals into the home who were not included in the reservation.

She subsequently reached out to the man to inform him that bringing extra guests to the property was not permitted, as it violates Airbnb’s policy.

Daniel and Jocelyn kept a close watch on their residence and subsequently observed the men coming and going with utility fans, pots, and four bags of white powder, according to the report.

Daniel shared that it was at that moment when neighbors started to express their concerns about the situation, leading him and his wife to notify the authorities.

According to the local outlet, the Omaha Police Department ultimately established surveillance outside the residence to monitor the disruptive visitors closely.

“They got into a vehicle and left, so we ended up following that vehicle and doing a traffic stop on them,” Lt. Steve Fornoff told WOWT. “We utilized our K-9 handlers. They came on scene, they ran a dog around the car and got a positive alert for narcotics.”

Authorities reported that the guests at the rental property were accused of manufacturing over 100 pounds of methamphetamine in under a week, according to the source. According to WOWT, all three individuals have been taken into custody on drug-related charges.

In the wake of the arrests, the Medranos are grappling with the consequences. According to WOWT, the residence was found with chemical dust scattered around, accompanied by a potent ammonia odor and fragments of methamphetamine.

“They used our bedroom as the drying room, same with my daughter’s room. They would dry the crystal meth there,” Daniel told the outlet. “They cook the crystal meth in our kitchen and then use our bedroom for drying.”

The family was given a repair estimate exceeding $26,000 for their home, with Jocelyn pointing out that this amount does not cover the cost of replacing the damaged furniture or paint.

The Medranos have announced that they will be away from their home for several months and are presently residing with friends. The pair is collaborating with Airbnb and contractors to initiate the repair process.

Airbnb provides a host damage protection service known as AirCover, offering up to $3 million in coverage for property damage to a home or the belongings of a host during a guest’s stay. Coverage encompasses refunds for thorough cleaning and items that have been harmed.
