Pipe-Wielding Brute Attacks Two Women, One Teen in String of Random NYC Assaults

Bronx, NY – A terrifying string of random attacks shook the Bronx on Wednesday morning, as a man wielding a metal pipe allegedly assaulted two women and a 15-year-old girl over the course of five hours. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Jeremiah White, had been released just a week prior after being charged in a separate assault case.

First Attack on West 175th Street

Authorities say the violent spree began at approximately 5:20 a.m., when White approached a 46-year-old woman on West 175th Street and University Avenue. Eyewitnesses report that he screamed “you hit my mom” before striking the victim repeatedly with a metal pipe.

The woman, BronxCare Health nurse Virginia Alvarez, was on her way to work when the assault occurred. Alvarez sustained a head injury and multiple bruises to her face and eyes. Speaking from her hospital bed at St. Barnabas Hospital, Alvarez described the brutal attack:

“He just kept punching me and punching me and punching me and punching me. He wouldn’t stop.”

Attack on Teen Victim

Roughly two hours later, at 7:25 a.m., White allegedly targeted a 15-year-old girl in Crotona Park East. Police say he yelled “watch out!” before striking the teen in the back of the head with the same metal pipe.

The young girl was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition. Authorities confirmed that the attack was unprovoked and appeared to be entirely random.

Third Assault on Franklin Avenue

White’s rampage continued nearly three hours after the attack on the teen. At 9:55 a.m., he allegedly punched a 54-year-old woman in the face outside an apartment complex on Franklin Avenue in Claremont.

Police apprehended White shortly afterward at 10:25 a.m., charging him with two counts of felony assault and one count of misdemeanor assault.

Prior Arrests and Recent Release

Jeremiah White has a history of arrests. Records indicate he has four prior encounters with law enforcement. Notably, he was arrested on October 7 for allegedly punching a 17-year-old girl in the face at the 174th Street Station on September 12. That charge was classified as misdemeanor assault.

Despite this prior arrest, White was released back onto the streets following his arraignment, though it is unclear whether he was under supervised release conditions. His recent freedom allowed him to commit Wednesday’s string of assaults, prompting criticism from local residents and officials about the criminal justice system’s handling of repeat offenders.

Court Proceedings

White is scheduled to return to court on November 18 for the September assault. Authorities have urged anyone with additional information or who may have witnessed any of the Wednesday morning attacks to contact the NYPD.

Community Reaction

The violent spree has left the Bronx community shaken. Residents expressed concern over safety, particularly for those commuting early in the morning. Social media posts about the attacks have sparked debates on the handling of repeat offenders and the importance of public vigilance.

“This is terrifying. A man is walking around assaulting people with a pipe and was recently released after a similar incident. Something needs to change,” one local resident posted online.

Safety Tips

Officials remind residents to stay aware of their surroundings, especially during early morning or late-night hours. Reporting suspicious activity promptly and traveling with others when possible are key safety measures.

The Bronx community, while shaken, continues to hope for swift justice and increased protections to prevent further random attacks.
