Police Investigate Possible Murder-for-Hire Plot in Alabama Mass Shooting Targeting Victims

2 min read

Authorities reported on Monday that some of the four individuals who lost their lives in a tragic shooting in Alabama had “extensive criminal” backgrounds and may have been victims of a “cowardly” murder-for-hire scheme.

Gunfire broke out Saturday night when a significant crowd had assembled outside the Hush Lounge in Birmingham, Alabama’s second-largest city, according to officials.

Authorities reported that multiple shooters arrived in a vehicle, exited, and opened fire before re-entering the vehicle and fleeing the scene.

An initial theory suggests that these shooters may have been compensated to target specific individuals.

“Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond informed reporters that several of the individuals who lost their lives had extensive criminal backgrounds.” “As a result, there is frequently motivation from others, and some individuals are prepared to pay for their elimination.” And so that is part of it.

Among the 21 individuals shot, four lost their lives.

As of Monday morning, officials reported that 12 out of the 17 injured individuals had been discharged from the hospital.

Authorities are providing a reward of $100,000, with $50,000 contributed by the FBI and another $50,000 from Crime Stoppers, for any information that may help solve the case.

Thurmond added that many of those shots were considered “collateral damage” in the attack aimed at specific targets.

“It’s quite apparent when observing individuals in a queue that they are likely unarmed, as entry to a club prohibits carrying weapons,” stated Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin. “While this act was undeniably atrocious, it also exemplified an extreme level of cowardice.” They lack courage.

Four individuals lost their lives, all hailing from Alabama: Anitra Holloman, 21; Tahj Booker, 27; Carlos McCain, 27; and Roderick Lynn Patterson Jr., 26.

According to officials, Holloman hailed from Bessemer, while the other three were from Birmingham.

In early 2018, McCain was found not guilty of murder and attempted murder charges related to the 2016 killing of a teenage boy.
