Race Day Live (Portsmouth, VA) – A stabbing at a Portsmouth Walmart on Sunday morning has been described as a random act of violence, as detailed in a criminal complaint.
Authorities took Deaquan V. Johnson, 29, into custody on allegations of attempted murder, malicious wounding, and unlawful stabbing.
Authorities responded to a call at the Walmart located on Frederick Boulevard at approximately 8:40 a.m. on Sunday, where they discovered an individual with several stab wounds to his back, as detailed in court documents. According to WAVY, the Portsmouth Police reported that the injuries sustained by the victim were not life-threatening.

Authorities refrained from sharing further information.
Court documents reveal that Johnson informed police he intended to go to the Walmart “to stab anyone in the store.” He stated that he approached the victim from behind while holding a knife. Upon turning around, the victim allegedly spotted Johnson holding the knife. Court documents reveal that Johnson stated to authorities, “he saw me with the knife so I decided to stab him anyway.”
Johnson informed the officer that he was not thinking clearly and mentioned ongoing family problems.
