The San Francisco Giants haven’t made the playoffs in a while, but they’re making big moves to change that. After missing out on postseason action for the past two years, they’ve shown their hunger by adding new players in the recent offseason. Names like Jorge Soler, Matt Chapman, and Jung Hoo Lee have joined the team. And just recently, they secured Blake Snell.
Snell, a former Cy Young Award winner, signed a hefty two-year, $62 million contract with the Giants after spending three seasons with the San Diego Padres. The deal didn’t go unnoticed, drawing reactions even from rival teams.
According to one executive from a rival team, “The Giants got an absolute gift,” highlighting the significance of Snell’s addition to the team.
And it’s not hard to see why there’s so much buzz. Snell boasted an impressive 2.25 ERA last year, leading the league. He also racked up 234 strikeouts and 99 walks in 180 innings, with an average of only 5.8 hits allowed per nine innings.
His new teammates are equally thrilled about having Snell on board. Pitcher Alex Cobb, who has played with Snell before, described the excitement as a “shot of adrenaline” for the team.

While it would have been ideal to have Snell from the start of camp, Cobb emphasized the momentum the team gains knowing they have a rotation with Snell’s potential. This sentiment was echoed throughout the team, with everyone feeling energized by the prospect of having Snell on their side.
With Snell’s arrival, the Giants seem poised to make a splash in the competitive NL West division. His addition has injected new energy into the team, signalling their readiness to compete at the highest level.
