Race Day Live Speculation is growing that Casey DeSantis, wife of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, might run for governor in 2026.
According to NBC News, the topic came up at a recent Republican donor gathering in Palm Beach County, with several sources saying she is seriously considering the idea.
Ron DeSantis will leave office in early 2027 due to term limits, and Casey DeSantis’ name has often been floated as a potential successor. However, both she and her husband have downplayed the possibility in the past.
Casey DeSantis, a 44-year-old former news anchor, played a major role in her husband’s political career and was a key figure during his presidential campaign.
Republican donors reportedly believe she would be a strong candidate. One source familiar with the discussions told NBC News that donors have encouraged her to run, and although she was not initially interested, she is now at least considering their arguments.
Another insider described her candidacy as a “real possibility,” though they were unsure if she would ultimately go through with it.
In May, Ron DeSantis dismissed the idea, saying his wife had “zero” interest in running for governor.
Casey DeSantis also commented on the rumors during an appearance on the Conservative Review podcast, saying that when people speculate about her political ambitions, it is a testament to her husband’s leadership.
Despite these statements, Republican insiders remain convinced she is a serious contender.
As Florida’s First Lady, Casey DeSantis has led several major initiatives. She spearheaded the Hope Florida program, which focuses on economic self-sufficiency and family support.

Casey DeSantis has been described as a major influence on her husband’s political career. Former Florida Congressman David Jolly said she is “every bit as involved in Ron’s rise as Ron is himself.”
A Republican lobbyist even called her “the power behind the throne,” while a GOP consultant described her as “the tip of the spear.”
While Casey DeSantis considers her options, other potential candidates are also emerging.
Rep. Byron Donalds, a strong ally of former President Donald Trump, is reportedly weighing a run for governor as well. With the 2026 election still a few years away, Florida’s political landscape is already heating up.
