Scott Greenlee Withdraws from Michigan GOP Chair Race, Endorses Meshawn Maddock!

Race Day Live  LANSING — Scott Greenlee has dropped out of the race for Michigan Republican Party chair and is backing Meshawn Maddock.

With Greenlee out, three candidates remain: Maddock, who was a former state party co-chair; former ambassador Joe Cella; and state Sen. Jim Runestad.

Greenlee, a political consultant from Lansing Township, said on Monday that he has known Maddock for a long time and trusts her leadership skills.

“She will bring in support from President Trump, his donors, and his team,” Greenlee said. “I have always been a team player and believe in putting the party first.”

Maddock responded on Facebook, calling Greenlee “a class act” and saying, “This is how we unite and win!”

The Michigan GOP is picking a new chair because former Congressman Pete Hoekstra, the current chair, has been nominated by Trump to be the U.S. ambassador to Canada. His confirmation is still pending in the Senate.

Delegates will vote for the new chair at the state convention on Feb. 21-22 at Huntington Place in Detroit.

Maddock, from Milford, is a longtime conservative activist and was an early supporter of Trump. She was a delegate for him at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

She is also one of 15 Republicans facing charges for allegedly submitting false elector documents in Michigan after the 2020 election. Maddock says she is confident that the charges will be dismissed.

Cella, a veteran GOP strategist, served as U.S. ambassador to Fiji and other Pacific island nations during Trump’s presidency.

Runestad, from White Lake Township, is known as one of the most conservative lawmakers in Michigan. He has been a state senator since 2019 after previously serving in the state House.
