Fans throughout the country are looking forward to a new football season, but in some areas, Friday night football has been overshadowed by sorrow. This month alone, at least seven teen football players have died. Yes, in the first month of high school football, seven student-athletes have perished.
In August 2024, at least seven middle and high school football players tragically perished at or after practices and games in many states, including Alabama, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. These cases have included head injuries, suspected heatstroke, and other health crises caused by the extreme conditions of football workouts in high temperatures.
Cohen Craddock, a 13-year-old from Madison Middle School in West Virginia, received a severe head injury during practice and died as a result of brain bleeding and edema. Another athlete, Caden Tellier, a 16-year-old quarterback from John T. Morgan Academy in Alabama, died after suffering a severe head injury during a game.
Javion Taylor, a 15-year-old from Virginia’s Hopewell High School, died after collapsing during an exercise and failing to respond to rapid CPR. Recent tragedies have raised concerns about player safety, including head protection and managing heat-related dangers during training.
Please pray for the young guys that play football this season.
