Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Showers and Thunderstorms Expected Across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are moving out to the northeast and north across parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. This is because energy from the Gulf of Mexico is moving north ahead of a cold front.

Strong winds, small hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rain are all expected in the areas being watched. There is also a chance that a few funnel clouds will form. This is what happens when a strong cold front with cooler air behind it pulls up tropical energy.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms will likely keep happening in spots. Some of this weather could also hit Tennessee and the Florida panhandle. Since that front is still moving east, scattered showers and thunderstorms may also hit parts of Georgia tonight and/or tomorrow.

Behind it, Oklahoma will be in danger tonight because of colder air that will bring temperatures down to almost freezing. Radiative cooling will start to work when the sky is clear and the winds are light. This means that there could be heavy frost overnight. Late-season plants and crops may be hurt by frost.
