Birmingham, AL – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe weather warning for sections of Alabama, including Birmingham, ahead of a cold front expected Tuesday. Forecasters predict brief, isolated tornadoes and wind gusts up to 60 mph, mainly in southeastern areas.
According to the NWS, severe weather is predicted to develop when warm, unstable air interacts with a cold front approaching the region. A Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) has been assigned, indicating the possibility of scattered thunderstorms.
Residents are advised to remain weather-aware and check emergency plans. Officials encourage using various alert sources, such as weather radios or smartphone apps, to obtain timely warnings. Securing outside objects and selecting secure refuge areas are also recommended.
Storms are expected to start early Tuesday and tail out by the evening as cooler, drier air rolls in. A calmer, partly sunny day is forecast on Wednesday, providing relief from the stormy weather.
