2 min read

Race Day Live Cyril, Oklahoma’s very own Skylie Thompson is giving American Idol another shot! She’s set to audition for Season 23 on Sunday, March 9, hoping that this time, she’ll make it through to the next round.

This isn’t her first time on the show. In 2022, Skylie auditioned and performed her original song Buckle Bunny, along with a Zach Bryan cover.

The judges were impressed but felt she needed more time to grow as an artist.

Judge Lionel Richie had encouraging words for her at the time. “You’ve got it. You don’t need voice lessons, you just need time.” Now, after two years of hard work, Skylie is ready to prove she belongs on the big stage.

Her father, Davy Thompson, was by her side during her first audition, and based on comments from her recent announcement, he’ll be there again for this second attempt.

Fans in Oklahoma are excited to see another local talent represent their state.

This season of American Idol is even more special because, for the first time, the show’s only winner from Oklahoma, Carrie Underwood, will be a judge.

That means Skylie will be performing in front of someone who knows exactly what it takes to win.
