The San Luis Obispo Police Department arrested a homeless man on Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder and torture after his girlfriend said he hit and hurt her.
Police say that Albert Jason Lucas II, a homeless man from San Luis Obispo, beat up his 52-year-old girlfriend while they were living in a tent city near a creek behind South Higuera Street. Police say Lucas, 53, did the crime between midnight and 6 a.m. and then ran away.
In the evening, police found the woman near Prado Road and Higuera Street. She hurt her face, so emergency workers took her in an ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Then, police found Lucas near Elks Lane and Prado Road and arrested him without any problems.
The police said in a news release that Lucas had proof of the assault on him.
Police say that on Thursday, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office officially charged him with several felonies, such as attempted murder, false imprisonment, domestic violence with a prior domestic violence conviction, torture causing great bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon, violating a domestic violence restraining order, domestic violence during the commission of a felony, terrorist threats, and violating his probation.
The police also charged him with having a controlled drug on his person, which is a misdemeanor.
He was taken to the San Luis Obispo County Jail without bail and booked in.
Detective Marques can be reached at 805-594-8060 by anyone who knows anything about the attack.
