The next round of March Social Security payments is on the way. With two payments already sent out and two more remaining, you shouldn’t have to wait much longer to receive yours.
A total of four payments are issued each month, and we’ll explain how to figure out when your check should arrive.
Thanks to the COLA increase, Social Security beneficiaries and those receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) should notice a slight increase in their monthly payments.
If you’re unsure about when to expect your payment, we’ve got you covered.
Read on to learn when your March payment should arrive and how the Social Security Administration (SSA) determines payment dates.
We’ll also go over the payment dates for other government benefits.
When to Expect Your Social Security Payment?
Curious about when you’ll receive your payment? Here’s a quick look at the Social Security and SSDI payment schedule for March.
How Your Payment Date is Determined?

Social Security payments are generally sent out starting on the second Wednesday of the month.
The remaining two payments will be issued on the next two Wednesdays. The week you receive your payment depends on your birthdate.
However, there’s one major exception, which we’ll explain below.
Other Government Benefits Follow a Different Schedule
If you’ve been receiving Social Security benefits since before May 1997, or you receive both Social Security and SSI, your payment schedule is not based on your birthdate.
Instead, Social Security payments are sent out on the 3rd of each month, while SSI payments are issued on the 1st of each month.
These dates may change if the 1st or the 3rd falls on a weekend or holiday. For example, since March 3 of last year was on a weekend, Social Security recipients received their payments two days earlier, on March 1.
Social Security and SSDI payments follow the same schedule, but other government benefits may have different payment dates.
Missing Your Social Security Payment? Here’s What to Do
If your payment hasn’t arrived on time, the SSA recommends waiting for three additional mailing days before taking action. After that, you can contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213.
The SSA advises that wait times are usually shorter in the morning, later in the week, and toward the end of the month.
If you’re having trouble reaching someone through the national number, you can use the SSA’s office locator to find a local office for assistance.
