Race Day Live , (Los Angeles, CA) – Teen overdose victim rescued from Devil’s Gate Dam in Pasadena
Officials reported that a teenage girl experienced an overdose near Devil’s Gate Dam reservoir in Pasadena and was airlifted from the canyon on Thursday.
At approximately 3:15 p.m., the Pasadena Fire Department received a call and sent first responders to the dam to assist a female patient in need. A girl was found on the south side of the reservoir, situated below the dam, between the 210 Freeway and Linda Vista Avenue.
Information is scarce, and it’s uncertain how the teenager arrived at the site, but a statement from Pasadena fire officials indicates that she required help to walk or move.
“The patient was non-ambulatory, and her extraction from the canyon was complicated by the dam’s high walls and the surrounding topography, necessitating helicopter hoist assistance,” the release noted.
Emergency responders from Pasadena FD’s Engine 38 arrived first and called for technical rescue, administering care to the teenager while awaiting a helicopter from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Footage from the air rescue shared by PFD captures the helicopter hovering above the canyon near the 210 Freeway, where traffic continued to flow as the teenager and a tactical medic were lifted into the aircraft.
A teenager was taken to Huntington Hospital, but details about her condition are currently unknown.
No additional information about the incident has been shared.
Constructed in 1920, Devil’s Gate Dam is the oldest dam by the Los Angeles Control District, aimed at providing flood protection for Pasadena, South Pasadena, and Los Angeles, as stated by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.
