Connor Zilisch, a rising star in sports car racing at just 17 years old, recently made headlines by winning pole position in his debut at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. But beyond his impressive performance on the track, Zilisch is also vocal about his views on enhancing the fan experience in NASCAR.
Having grown up with aspirations of a Formula 1 career, Zilisch’s perspective shifted after attending an F1 event in 2020. Comparing the grandeur and sophistication of F1 races to NASCAR events, Zilisch believes there’s room for improvement in NASCAR’s fan engagement initiatives.
Reflecting on his experience at the F1 race, Zilisch remarked, “It made us (NASCAR) look like we were going to the county fair, almost.”
He emphasized the lavishness and attention to detail evident in F1 events, acknowledging the challenges of replicating such extravagance in NASCAR but highlighting the importance of prioritizing the fan experience.
While acknowledging the logistical challenges, Zilisch expressed optimism about the potential for NASCAR to enhance its hospitality offerings and create a more immersive experience for fans.
He believes that providing fans with exclusive access and amenities would be beneficial, particularly for those willing to invest in premium race day experiences.
Despite his initial focus on Formula 1, Zilisch has found success in various racing disciplines, including sports car racing and NASCAR.
His achievements include winning the Rolex 24 and the 12 Hours of Sebring in the LMP2 class, as well as securing pole position and finishing fourth in his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut at Circuit of The Americas.

While Zilisch acknowledges NASCAR’s widespread popularity in North America, he also sees opportunities for the sport to continue evolving and attracting new fans. As he continues his racing journey, Zilisch remains committed to advocating for enhancements that will elevate the overall fan experience in NASCAR.
