Teens Face Criminal Charges in the Death of Kansas Man; Young Female Sentenced to More Than 15 Years

Johnson County, Kansas – In the death of Kansas citizen Jarod Rogers, a 17-year-old was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison by the Kansas Department of Corrections. Kyleigh Irma Guzman faces 147 months for one count of intentional second-degree murder and 55 months on two charges of aggravated robbery.

In late November 2022, Shawnee Police attended to a welfare check and discovered Rogers with a gunshot wound. Rogers died of his injuries on December 2, 2022.

According to court documents, five teenagers were all engaged in Rogers’ death. Fernando Reyes-Lara, 18, has pled guilty to intentional second-degree murder and aggravated robbery.

Reyes-Lara was sentenced to 400 months in jail, for a total of more than 30 years. Three more 17-year-olds implicated in Rodgers’ death face criminal charges as well.

Guzman will serve all 202 months concurrently in KDOC detention, plus an additional 36 months following release.
