It’s not just outsiders who have these misconceptions—movie directors, ad agencies, and anyone trying to create an image of Texas often get it wrong.

No, not all Texans have massive ranches.
No, not all Texans wear cowboy hats.
No, not all Texans ride horses.

But…

Millions of Texans do wear cowboy boots.

It’s always funny when you travel to another part of the U.S. or even another country, and as soon as people find out you’re from Texas, they assume all those stereotypes are true.

I drive a pickup truck and might have a slight accent—but that’s about where the Texas clichés end for me!

I lived in Portland, OR, for about a year and a half, and I stood out because people there could tell I wasn’t from the Pacific Northwest.
