One of the best things about Maine is going on road trips and discovering new convenience stores along the way.
If you’re lucky, you might stumble upon one with surprisingly good pizza—like the slice at J Brothers Variety in Cumberland.
J Brothers Variety
Located on Gray Rd. in Cumberland, Maine, this small spot is seriously delivered with an unexpectedly amazing slice.
My friends and I were heading to explore some trails deep in the woods when we spotted this gas station-looking shack on the side of the road.
This is exactly why my parents always told me not to judge a book by its cover—because this place was way more than just a little gas station.
There was a line out the door for sandwiches, and the pizza slice they served didn’t make any sense for a gas station. Just look at this beauty:
I saw someone walk out with a slice on a paper plate, and I remember thinking it looked just like authentic Jersey pizza.
We ordered one, and honestly—this might be the hidden gem, the holy grail of quick pizza stops.
According to Yelp, J Brothers is even ranked as one of the best convenience stores in Maine, holding a solid 4.3-star rating.
I was impressed by the quality (especially for a gas station), but J Brothers isn’t the only spot with a good slice.
And if you’re Dave Portnoy from Barstool, you’ve probably already visited and rated the best pizza places in Maine.
