INDIANA, United States — We needed rain, and we got it in Indiana, but the weather has been gloomy for the past three days as Helene’s remnants cast clouds and mist over the Ohio River Valley.
We have another day or so of overcast, rainy weather. Sunny weather is expected to return soon.
Use our interactive radar to track the rains
We are watching a cold front as it moves across the middle Plains. It is not particularly powerful, but it will perform the work of pushing Helene out to sea and restoring sunshine to Indiana. Temperatures will also dip slightly by midweek. Expect some mornings in the 40s.
A cold front moves in, rain moves out
The low is gradually migrating east, but Indiana remains in the cloud and shower bubble created by Helene’s leftovers. The system requires something to push it because it is now stalled.
A cold front brings a mild temperature drop of 5 to 15 degrees to the Midwest. We may see highs in the high 60s and low 70s in the middle of the week, with morning temperatures in the 40s on Wednesday and Thursday. It’s a temporary, minor reduction in temperature, but it will also mean better skies.
The clouds will remain over most of Indiana on Monday and Tuesday. Sun breaks may be likely at times, as will showers.
Timing the Rain
Rain chances are gradually decreasing, but they will be eliminated by Wednesday. The rest of the workweek looks promising with plenty of sunshine. We will finally have a chance to dry out.
Our next front is expected to arrive this weekend, bringing with it some intermittent rain. The upper-level pattern appears to be a little sloppy and erratic, so we’re not sure when the rain will fall next weekend.
Cooler air midweek
We will not see a significant drop in temperatures overall, but it will feel significantly cooler on Wednesday and Thursday morning. This front will remove the humidity that Helene has delivered. This will allow morning temperatures to reach the 40s in Indiana by midweek.
