Three men in Iowa have been arrested and charged in connection with the death of their 18-year-old brother, Ezekiel B., whose body was found under tragic circumstances.
The suspects—23-year-old Azane B., 26-year-old Pierre B., and 30-year-old Christian B.—are accused of restraining Ezekiel, leading to his death from starvation and dehydration.
Ezekiel, who suffered from schizophrenia, reportedly experienced a severe episode on November 3, 2024.
According to investigators, his behavior had become erratic, and he allegedly threatened neighbors, prompting his brothers to physically restrain him to his bed. They claimed their actions were meant to protect both Ezekiel and others.
However, while restrained, Ezekiel was denied food and water. His brothers stated that when they attempted to hydrate him, he resisted.
By November 5 and 6, he was still struggling against his restraints, but by the night of November 6, he had stopped breathing.
His brothers claimed they believed his heart was still beating until the morning of November 7. Despite clear signs of death, they did not report it until November 9, when police discovered his decomposed body in their home.
An autopsy confirmed that Ezekiel died due to complications from starvation and dehydration, worsened by the restraints.
As a result, Azane, Pierre, and Christian were arrested on March 28 and charged with involuntary manslaughter, assault causing serious injury, and false imprisonment. They are currently being held without bond at the Lincoln County Jail.
The case has raised serious concerns about how mental health crises are handled, particularly within families. Many believe that early intervention and proper mental health care could have prevented this tragedy.
As legal proceedings continue, more details may emerge, shedding further light on the circumstances surrounding Ezekiel’s death.
