Trans Person Charged with Exposing Self in Women’s Gym Previously Convicted of Beating Ex-Wife

Los Angeles, CA – A transgender individual at the center of a viral gym locker room dispute in Beverly Hills previously pleaded guilty to assaulting their ex-wife while living in Ohio as a man, court records show. The person, now known as Alexis Black, had taken the victim’s first name as their own after the conviction.

Background of the Domestic Violence Case

Black, formerly known as Grant Freeman, was convicted in 2022 for brutally beating his wife, Alexis Freeman, resulting in a compound fractured jaw among other severe injuries.

Court documents from Hamilton County, Ohio state:

“Kyle Grant Freeman caused serious physical harm to the victim. The victim suffered a compound fractured mandible, which resulted in her needing surgery.”

Black was sentenced to one year in prison, minus time served, and has prior convictions for domestic violence and drug trafficking, along with additional charges such as resisting arrest.

Beverly Hills Gym Incident

Recently, Black became the subject of online controversy after singer-songwriter Tish Hyman accused them of exposing themselves and harassing women in the locker room of a Beverly Hills gym, including the former Gold’s Gym location now owned by EōS Fitness.

Footage from the encounter quickly circulated on social media. In the video, Hyman can be heard confronting gym staff:

“Men! Grown men with big d–ks in the women’s locker room! And that’s why I’m getting kicked out, and I wanna make sure the girls know!”

Hyman, who has nearly 100,000 monthly Spotify listeners, said she was kicked out and had her membership revoked shortly after raising the complaint.

Black’s Response

Black, who is currently transitioning, denied the allegations, telling TMZ that they were fully covered and that no inappropriate behavior occurred. They defended their use of the female changing room:

“You’re not going to put a trans woman with a trans man just because we’re trans. That seems like a whole new envelope of discrimination.”

Black insisted that being forced into a male or trans-only facility would have made them feel victimized.

Public and Social Media Reaction

The situation sparked intense reactions online. Commenters on Black’s Instagram criticized the choice to adopt their ex-wife’s first name and challenged their presence in women’s spaces.

One user wrote:

“Pretty creepy using your ex-wife’s first name.”

Another commented:

“Stop invading women’s spaces. You frighten women at their most vulnerable by going into their changing rooms and bathrooms.”

Other social media users also expressed concern about the expansion of EōS Fitness locations, which now include 150 gyms nationwide with plans for additional facilities.

Ongoing Controversy

Footage and accounts of the incident illustrate the conflict over transgender access to gendered spaces and the broader debate surrounding inclusivity in public facilities. EōS Fitness has not issued an official statement regarding the incident, and Black, Hyman, and Alexis Freeman did not respond to requests for comment.

The incident highlights the intersection of prior criminal history, gender identity, and public safety concerns, and has sparked significant discussion about gym policies, transgender rights, and the responsibilities of facility operators.
