The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library Central branch will host an event today to mark the anniversary of the deadliest tornado in U.S. history.
The event, titled “Tri-State Tornado: Tragedy and Resilience,” will take place tonight from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
It will cover the events of the devastating storm that struck communities in Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana on March 18, 1925.
The tornado killed nearly 700 people and caused about $17 million in damage, roughly $300 million in today’s value.
Tom Lonnberg, Chief Curator at the Evansville Museum, will discuss the tornado’s impact on the region and the lasting legacy it left behind.
