Oldsmar, Florida — Surveillance footage from a pet store in Florida shows a woman exploring the baby bird department before scooping one up and presumably throwing it in her bag.

The incident occurred at 9:52 a.m. on Saturday at Everything Birds in Oldsmar, about 16 miles west of Tampa, just as the business was opening in preparation for an event.

Camera footage shows the woman reaching into a petter, grabbing the Black Headed Caique, and then walking out of the store, apparently without paying.

Kirsten Cunningham, the store owner, told Nexstar’s WFLA that the newborn bird is worth $2,400.

“We just want the bird’s safe return so we can care for it properly,” Cunningham told me.

She further stated that the bird requires formula and cannot eat on its own yet.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies are investigating the incident. The investigation is still underway, thus no other information was provided.
