In a charming nod to baseball’s rich history, vintage baseball clubs from across California convened at San Luis Obispo’s picturesque Sinsheimer Stadium on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
The event, reminiscent of a bygone era, transported players and spectators alike back to the year 1886 when baseball was played under a different set of rules and with a unique sense of camaraderie.
The Riverside Smudge Pots, hailing from Southern California, were among the enthusiastic participants. Led by their captain, Chris Johnson, the Smudge Pots embodied the spirit of vintage baseball, welcoming players of all backgrounds to join their ranks.

Dubbed the Coast Classic, the event brought together a diverse array of vintage baseball clubs, each representing a slice of California’s rich baseball heritage.
Alongside the Riverside Smudge Pots, teams such as the Crestline Highlanders, Barbary Coast, and the San Francisco Pelicans showcased their skills on the field, delighting the crowd with their adherence to 1886-era rules and regulations.
Despite the vintage setting, the atmosphere at Sinsheimer Stadium was vibrant and electric, with fans cheering on their favourite teams and revelling in the timeless allure of baseball. The event served as a reminder of the sport’s enduring legacy and its ability to unite people across generations.
